Cabinet of Grand Tour Intaglios.

These date from the late 1700's through to the mid 1800's mainly.
There are 52 in total.

Very popular in the Georgian and Regency era, in the days before photography these became keepsakes and souvenirs for the wealthy tourists of the places visited whilst on their European Tour.

Often depicting classical figures from ancient Greece and Rome, they also had familiar figures of the day.
Normally formed in plaster but marble dust and wax was also used.

Many are signed, named and numbered on the rear.
